Short Film: Motherfucker

In Society we witness a standard, a life which does not seem so miserable if you abide by the given rules – playing the game of values and norms avoiding the storms of deviancy and lack of opportunity. When you are flung into the whirlwind of the damned by Society, life at that standard may become out of reach. As a result one cannot expect the same luxuries of trust, opportunity and respect. In this short flick we witness an epitome of that lifestyle.

Motherfucker takes two Characters that aim to get by in such a state. Society is a judgemental place, we can see that even in how I am categorising such people yet examples portrayed in representations serve as my evidence. Witnessing these Characters make statements and act I felt drawn to the fact that aspirations remained. They were willing to excuse the otherwise dreadful dramas of trust, which falls short to lust.

The array of emotions ranges from passionate embraces showing desire, jubilation by minor success, life threatening anger and survival instinct, but maybe more interesting than all – forgiveness. The capacity to forgive is not only a weapon of the benevolent. I believe we forgive by understanding circumstances, almost reasoning from consequence – in turn admitting some fault in expectation.

The setting encourages thought about possibility. An abrupt ending made me realise this was not an ordinary story in the sense of a Film, where the plot is captivating enough to present us with a dilemma, an ending or scenario that offers a demand for a sequel. Instead the short captures a moment of life – realising criminality but still addressing Humanity, placing the deviant momentarily back into the idea of normality.

Motherfucker is a project that’s shrouded in anonymity. The creators are advocates of Takeaway Scenes, focusing on the Character and Short Film opposed to rewarding the creators with praise. Understandably there’s no bias or element of expectation to guide you through how you should feel toward the film. Above you see what I got from the film, that’s the beauty of criticism and perception as a neutral watcher. A Tarantino film would be disappointing if not accompanied by his beloved style. The anonymous approach allows experimentation. They also abide by certain rules, encouraging others to contribute to such a stance on creation.
